BATTLEFRONT BETA
The temporary Beta of DICE’s version of Battlefront went live this weekend for testing by any player who wished to join in. Like Battlefront 2, players joined in Star Wars battles in a cleaner, crisper version of the previous installment. Unlike the other Battlefronts, DICE’s game will not contain any Prequel-era battles, instead remaining in the Galactic Civil War era.
I watched players team up with a friend in co-op missions as Rebels against AI enemies (stormtroopers) in a Tatooine battle, and against other players (Rebels vs. Stormtroopers again) in a re-creation of the Hoth battle, which had also featured in the previous Battlefront games. The difference here is that the Hoth level seemed to follow the movie more closely: if it’s possible to win the game as a Rebel, I haven’t seen it! Another nice returning feature is the chance to play as Darth Vader or Luke, or drive an AT-AT!
Also of note is another player vs. player level taking place on a volcanic area of the planet Sullust (not to be confused with Mustafar; Nien Nunb, Lando’s copilot in the battle for Endor during Return of the Jedi, is a Sullustan). It’s always nice to see more of the classic minor planets.
The Beta ended on Tuesday October 13, but the full game will be released November 17 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and on Origin for PC and in December will feature a battle taking place on Jakku (a new Sequel trilogy planet).
