Star Wars Jedi: Survivor brings back the destructiveness of lightsabers

Early footage of Cal Kestis fighting with a lightsaber suggests that some of the cinematic power of lightsabers is returning to the games.

Star Wars’ most iconic weapon, the lightsaber, is almost laughably OP in the films. It can slice through limbs, almost any armour, doors, and even ships with ease. To avoid giving video gamers too easy of a ride, they are not quite as powerful in most Star Wars video games, such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Players will often need a few well-placed blows with a lightsaber to take down enemies.

However, this could be set to. change in one key way in. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. In new footage published by IGN, Cal’s fighting moves are showcased one after another. At around 4:40, you see him battling a Scout Trooper and, if you look closely, you can see a limp fall off the enemy.

This is more similar to a lightsaber’s actual capabilities, able to cut through bone, flesh, and armour with ease. As you can see in the rest of the gameplay, the video game lightsabers act more like regular swords, hammering and burning the player’s opponents.

While this change in Survivor is still not wholly accurate to lightsaber canon, it does highlight a step in the right direction.
