The lead actor in Star Wars: Andor has scored a Golden Globes nomination for his portrayal of the future Rebel hero and leader.

The 80th Golden Globes event will take place on January 10, 2023, with major Hollywood stars and productions in the running for the coveted industry awards. Joining the line-up of talent this time around is Diego Luna, who has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series (Drama).

The series in question is of course Star Wars: Andor, with Season 2 of the hit Disney+ show currently in production. The official Star Wars Twitter account was one of the first to congratulate Luna, with the actor having received much praise from both fans and critic alike for his returning role as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s Rebel hero, Cassian Andor.

The industry recognition is also history-making, as Luna is only the second Star Wars actor to have ever received a Golden Globes nomination, the first being Sir Alec Guinness for his portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope. The latest nomination is the only nod that Star Wars: Andor has received at this year’s Golden Globes, despite the series being up for two potential wins in the upcoming Critics Choice Awards in the Best Actor category (again, for Luna) and Best Drama Series.

The Golden Globes is an annual awards show organised by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and the upcoming ceremony will be held on January 10, 2023 and televised live in the US on NBC and Peacock.
