At the end of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, the heroes of the Rebel Alliance have defeated the Empire and destroyed the second Death Star. However, there are still some loose ends that are left unresolved. One of the most prominent is the fate of Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca. In this article, we’ll explore where Lando and Chewie went after the events of Return of the Jedi.
Lando Calrissian
At the end of Return of the Jedi, Lando is shown piloting the Millennium Falcon alongside Wedge Antilles as they lead the attack on the second Death Star. After the Death Star is destroyed, Lando is seen celebrating with the rest of the Rebel Alliance on Endor.
In the Star Wars Expanded Universe, which is no longer considered canon, Lando had further adventures before the events of Return of the Jedi. He starts a family, only for his daughter to be captured by the First Order. Lando then goes on a journey to the desert planet of Pasaana with Luke to find answers about the growing darkness in the Force, but failed to uncover anything.
From there, we know that Lando came back to fight again for the Rebels, piloting the Millennium Falcon. to face down Palptaine and the Sith on Exegol. It is not known what happened to him after that, although he survived this final battle.
In the current Star Wars canon, Lando’s story is continued in the film Solo: A Star Wars Story. The film shows a younger Lando, played by Donald Glover, before the events of the original trilogy. Solo also reveals that Lando is the owner of the Millennium Falcon before it falls into the hands of Han Solo.
Chewbacca
At the end of Return of the Jedi, Chewbacca is also shown celebrating with the Rebel Alliance on Endor. However, his fate after the events of the film is less clear than Lando’s.
In the Star Wars Expanded Universe, Chewbacca goes on to have further adventures with Han Solo and their family. He is involved in various conflicts against the remnants of the Empire and the New Republic.
In the current Star Wars canon, Chewbacca’s story is continued in the sequel trilogy, which begins with The Force Awakens. The film shows an older Chewbacca, who is still loyal to his friend Han Solo, but is also a mentor to a new generation of heroes, including Rey and Finn.
The Short Answer
The fate of Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca after the events of Return of the Jedi is largely left up to interpretation. While the Star Wars Expanded Universe provided further adventures for these characters, the current Star Wars canon has yet to fully explore their post-Return of the Jedi storylines. Nevertheless, we know that Lando and Chewie survived, having both appeared and played prominent roles in the sequel trilogies.
