As the highly anticipated launch of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has arrived, fans may have noticed that the sequel to Fallen Order is not heading to the PS4 and Xbox One consoles.
Respawn Entertainment’s action-packed adventure is exclusively coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S at launch. With the next-generation consoles having been available since late 2020, this decision shouldn’t come as a complete surprise.
Why is Star Wars Jedi: Survivor not on PS4 or Xbox One?
According to game director Stig Asmussen, the reason behind Star Wars Jedi: Survivor skipping the older consoles is the advanced hardware of the newer generation. In an interview with PLAY Magazine (March 2023 edition), Asmussen explained that the newer hardware allows the developers to create larger, more detailed maps with greater density, broader enemy and NPC variety, and overall fidelity.
“We didn’t want to break what we did in the first game because it was well received, but we wanted to evolve/enhance the experience,” Asmussen stated. He emphasized that the more powerful hardware of the next-gen consoles enables the team to take advantage of faster processors, larger and faster memory, and improved loading times.
Asmussen further expressed his belief that the new generation provides players with a true next-gen experience in the Star Wars universe. This decision reflects the team’s commitment to leveraging the capabilities of the latest hardware to deliver an enhanced and immersive gaming experience.
Based on these quotes, it’s unlikely that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be released on PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch anytime soon.
