Carrie Fisher, beloved for her role as Princess Leia Organa, has been a significant part of the Star Wars franchise. She has appeared in a total of five Star Wars movies and made a digitally recreated cameo in a sixth.

The Original Trilogy

Carrie Fisher made her first appearance in “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope” in 1977, introducing the character of Princess Leia Organa. Her portrayal of Leia, a fearless leader in the Rebel Alliance, made an indelible impact on pop culture. She reprised her role in the subsequent original trilogy films: “Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back” (1980) and “Episode VI – Return of the Jedi” (1983).

The Sequel Trilogy

More than three decades after “Return of the Jedi,” Carrie Fisher returned to the Star Wars galaxy in “Episode VII – The Force Awakens” (2015). Fisher’s Leia had since become a General in the Resistance, continuing her fight against tyranny in the form of the First Order. Fisher then appeared in “Episode VIII – The Last Jedi” (2017), which turned out to be her last Star Wars film before her untimely death in December 2016.

Despite Fisher’s passing, General Leia Organa was also featured in “Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker” (2019). Director J.J. Abrams used unused footage from “The Force Awakens” and “The Last Jedi” to respectfully include Leia in the story, ensuring Fisher’s presence was felt in the conclusion of the saga she had been such an essential part of.

A Posthumous Appearance

Carrie Fisher also makes a digitally recreated cameo appearance in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” (2016), the standalone film set just before the events of “A New Hope.” The digital artists at Industrial Light & Magic painstakingly crafted a younger version of Leia to accept the Death Star plans at the film’s climax.

Our thoughts on Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher’s portrayal of Leia Organa across five main saga films has left an enduring legacy in the Star Wars universe and in the hearts of fans worldwide. Her strength, humor, and resilience mirrored the qualities of the character she played, making her an unforgettable part of Star Wars history.
