Star Wars’ Andor’s cast and crew have returned to Dorset, in southern England, for filming for Season 2.

As confirmed at Star Wars Celebration, Andor Season 2 is well underway, with filming expected to wrap in August, 2023 and an estimated premiere date of August, 2024. Now, images taken by Dorset Echo’s Michael Taylor have confirmed that the Star Wars crew has returned to a Season 1 location, suggesting that the fictional place it corresponds to will also return in Season 2.

That place is Windspir Quarry in Dorset, which was the filing location for Segra Milo in episodes eight and eleven of Season 1. The planet was the base of operations for extremist rebel Saw Gerrera and his Partisans.

The rocky planet was part of an Imperial lockdown last time we saw it, with pirate activity having alerted the eye of the Empire and drawing in Imperial patrols. Its return in Season 2 suggests that Forest Whitaker’s Gerrera will also return. This would make sense as the rebel character played a key role in Rogue One, the movie that Andor Season 2 will be building up to.

As an active rebel, it stands to reason that Gerrera will be involved the rebel activities leading up to the events of Rogue One. However, seeing as we already know that Saw ends up imprisoning Cassian without seeming to recognise him, it’s likely that the two characters won’t actually meet in Season 2.

That doesn’t mean that Gerrera doesn’t still have a role to play. The nature of the rebel units means that many people know each other’s names and reputations without seeing their faces. Cassian could well know Gerrera’s name and be seeking him out, without actually having met him before.

Of course, we’ll need to wait until Season 2 airs for us to know what sort of role Saw will play.
