With Star Wars Celebration 2023 kicking off today, here’s what we believe you should expect to hear about on the event’s first day.
Although the panel schedule has been confirmed for a while, it’s still up for debate on what we will actually find out throughout the weekend. Nonetheless, we can make some pretty good guesses for what’s on its way today.
According to journalist Jeff Sneider on his podcast, The Hot Mic, today’s Lucasfilm Studio Showcase panel should see a new trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and the first trailer for the upcoming live-action Star Wars series, Ahsoka. While we agree that the Ahsoka trailer will likely air today, it’s possible that it could be saved for the dedicated Ahsoka panel on Saturday.
What’s more, further news about Star Wars films is expected to be on the way – including one curveball. While we already have spotted reports of three Star Wars films (courtesy of Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, Taika Waititi, and Shawn Levy respectively), now there are reports that Dave Filoni could also be directing a movie, according to a source “close to Star Wars Celebration”.
Whether this is one of the titles we already knew about or a fourth, new title remains to be seen.
“I told you last week there’s going to be three Star Wars movies that are announced tomorrow,” said Sneider. “One is Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s movie, the one that [Damon] Lindelof left, and then [there are] two others.
“We don’t really have any details…but, grain of salt, I hear that Dave Filoni is going to get one of the three movies.
“I’ve heard they’re trying to codify the Star Wars universe around the world that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have created, which is why these other movies are sort of being killed. It sounds like Dave Filoni is the new George Lucas in terms of designing the universe going forward.”
A fourth unknown film is certainly a surprise so close to SWCE. You’d expect Filoni to be involved in all the films to some degree, but it’s exciting to see that he could helm his own project, following the resounding success of The Mandalorian, for which he was executive producer.
