The director of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Ron Howard, has shared an update on a sequel to the Han Solo film – but it’s not what fans might have hoped.

Speaking to NME in an interview, Howard said that there are no plans for a sequel movie, or at least none that involve him.

“The only discussion that I’m aware of about a sequel for Solo is coming from the fans at this point,” he explained. “I don’t think it’s a Lucasfilm priority, as I understand it.”

Hope is not completely lost, however, as the director added: “But there’s some great characters launched, and the folks from Lucasfilm love the fans and really do listen so I would never say never – but I’m not aware of any concrete plans right now to extend the story or deal with that particular set of characters.”

Since Solo premiered in 2018, fans have been clamouring for a sequel film, with fan casts and proposed plots circulating online via Reddit and TikTok. The end of Solo: A Star Wars Story leaves the cast with ten years to go before Star Wars: A New Hope and five years before Andor. That’s plenty of time for Han Solo to get up to more escapades, perhaps even crossing paths with Cassian Andor during both of their times in the underworld of the galaxy.

Of course, this is all speculation for now and it sounds like the future is not bright when it comes to a Solo sequel. As well all know, however, a lot can be built on hope.
